Lakefront Drift

Chicago, Illinois
Orange and pink predawn sky over Lake Michigan, viewed from the grassy shoreline at Northerly Island.
Chasing sunrise, recording field sounds, and making frequent stops for views and snacks. A Chicago lakefront adventure with occasional pedaling.

What started as a Chicago bike ride turned into a full day of “one more stop.” From waiting for sunrise at Northerly Island to relaxing at Fullerton Beach, I took my time recording field sounds, watching the water, and letting curiosity pick the route. Along the way: wildflowers, Dessa Kirk’s Daphne Garden sculptures, harbor views, and a skyline that kept giving me excuses to pull out the camera.

There was also a very important snack break; a bratwurst, a hot dog, possibly both. The menu is a little fuzzy; the enjoyment wasn’t. A field note full of lakefront wandering, listening, and occasional pedaling.
